As an advisor at the Utah-based venture capital firm Signal Peak Ventures, Steve Shillingford helps start-up consumer ventures get off the ground. Prior to this position at Signal Peak, he served as chief executive officer of Solera Networks, also in Utah. In addition to his work in the business field, Steve Shillingford remains heavily involved in several Utah-area organizations, including the Utah Technology Council (UTC).
Established in 1991, The UTC is a professional association geared toward those working in the high-tech and clean-tech industries. Its more than 5,000 members share information with industry peers, meet with government officials, and listen to professional service providers.
Throughout the year, the UTC sponsors networking opportunities, public policy forums, and executive training sessions for its members. One event, held on June 8, 2015, was the annual PR event, titled Crisis PR: What Every Company Needs to Know. Those who attended the conference learned how to prevent a crisis and minimize reputation damage. UTC members Liz Tanner of Vivint and Cheryl Snapp Conner of Snapp Conner PR prepared case studies for the event.
